Defending in FC 24 can be quite challenging. It's quite hard to stay in control and keep your opponent in check, very easy to look a bit foolish. "TaZz" shares his learnings on defense after playing the game for just over a week and provides some helpful tips.
Key takeaways for this lesson:
- Observation: In FC 24 it's harder to recover from a misstep in defending. Moving out aggressiveley or anticipating too much can leave your defense vulnerable. It's also harder to get contact to the opponent's player and hinder their dribbling.
- Learning: Avoid moving out of position. Especially when the opponent has momentum going forward, it's key to not move forward, but keep your position. Overall a more conservative approach to defending is required for now.
- Observation: Good positioning is very hard to achieve without jockey defending (L2 or LT button).
- Learning: You have to use jockey defending much earlier and fast jockey (L2+R2/LT+RT) isn't as effective anymore. Having defenders in your team with the Jockey PlayStyle might help.
- Observation: Auto-tackles happen less. Auto-tackles are tackles that happen automatically when close to the ball.
- Learning: Even when you have a really good position and the opponent is about to get really close to you, you have to tackle for the ball.
- Observation: When playing a tactic with depth 45 or higher, your team plays "Zonal Defense". This will lead to your team pushing up, marking opponent's player more closely and also to overload the ballside.
- Learning: If you have problems with this high press attempt of your team or feel to vulnerable to switch of sides, consider lowering the depth below 45.
We will deal with the Advanced/Tactical Defending setting and the pros/cons in a lesson in the next couple of days.
