Key takeaways for this lesson:

  • Fast build up - you want to look for crosses that attack space in the box. Normal, ground and driven crosses work the best here.
  • You want to have a fast build up when you’re playing an opponent who has a high depth or is aggressive and likes to press as it will open up space for you to attack into with through balls, driven passes or just sprinting.
  • Slow build up - there won’t be much space in the box so you’ll be aiming your cross to a target man who is good in the air. Lobbed and trivial crosses work the best here.
  • You want to slow down the tempo against an opponent who has a low depth or defends passively and doesn’t press the ball. Here you shouldn’t force the ball into the box but patiently try and get into a position to lob / trivela cross to your aerial forward.
