Key takeaways for this lesson:

  • Normal Cross (Square/X) - the most common cross you’ll be using when you have an attacker running into the box
  • Trivela Cross (L2+Square/LT+X) - you can use the trivela cross to get a similar trajectory to the normal cross if you’re crossing with a inverted winger / fullback. Or you can also use it to curve the ball towards the box to avoid the GK. The Trivela PlayStyle is required to do this.
  • High Cross (lobbed cross, L1+Square/LB+X) - this type of cross is floated in giving time for your taller attackers to position themselves for either for a direct header at goal or a knockdown for another player.
  • Ground Cross (Double Tap Square/X) - this is played along the ground, typically with less power. It's useful when your target is close to the goal and you want to keep the ball low to evade defenders or find a teammate for a tap-in.
  • Driven Cross (L1+R1+Square/LB+RB+X) - this cross is hit with more power and pace, traveling around waist height depending on the power. It's effective when you have a teammate making a near-post run and you want to deliver the ball quickly and accurately for a first-time shot. Or if you have a clear path and want to get the cross in before the opponent moves the GK.
  • Driven Ground Cross (L1+R1/LB+RB and Double Tap Square/X) - This cross combines the characteristics of both the driven cross and ground cross. It's played with power but stays close to the ground, making it ideal for finding teammates in the box who are positioned between the defenders or when there’s a shirt time window for attacker to receive the cross.
  • Mechanic for the double tap crosses: the Ground and Driven Ground Cross require you to double tap the crossing button. The first press is to power up and with the second tap you confirm the cross to be a ground cross.
