You have so many tools and techniques at hand to create chances - it can be become really hard to find the right mix, so you don't over- or underuse a certain technique. First, this lesson sharpens the potential issue that you might face and provides you guidance on how to approach it.
The potential issue that you might encounter:
- When you consider all the different tools that you have in the game (passing techniques, dribbling techniques, skill moves etc.), it's really hard to have everything on your mind. This will result in you only using a small fraction of some tools, even though there are more that you know how to potentially use.
- Since you only focus on a small fraction of tools, you will tend to overuse them, while you underuse some others. At worst, it might lead to the circumstance that in the approach of becoming a better player, you start to have tunnel vision on a certain technique and basically force it to implement it in your attack.
- This can hinder your success as a player, since you basically limit yourself in the options that are available to you. You struggle with the finding the right mix, since it's just too much.
Our target as a learning and improving player:
- You want to get comfortable and acquired with a lot of different tools, but in a way that you build up the skill to use that tool. Not with the intention to spam it, but when the right situation occurs.
- The usage of these tools should become second nature for you, so you don't have to consciously think about using them. This helps you to keep your flow in the game.
Solutions for the initial issue stated:
- Check out this lesson about keeping a clear head: How To Improve By Mastering The Inner Game
- You also want to reflect between matches and game sessions whether there is a part in your game that you have tunnel vision on right now, so you overuse it.
- You should also ask yourself, if there was a tool in the past which you used to quite some success, but somehow forgot about it.
- By constantly challenging your kit of tools that you frequently use, you widen your kit of tools that you have mastered to use unconsciously.
