How To Build A Complete Tactic Setup

Formations, tactics and instructions allow you to set up gameplans not only for the match in general, but also for the specific situations like closing out a game or going for a comeback. You should make use of all of your gameplans to be prepared for every situation.

Key takeaways for this lesson:

  • You have up to five gameplans available that you can set up before a game. One is your default formation, which most often is mainly used to get all of your players on chemistry, but this can also be used to play in case you can set up your team in the formation you want to play.
  • One or two gameplans should be the formations that you want to play in the match most of the time. It makes sense to have two different formations/tactics prepared in case you have problems against your opponent, because you can then switch to another formation and see if this helps.
  • Then you should have one gameplan to close out a game (ultra defensive) and the 5th gameplan to go for a comeback (ultra attacking).
  • You should prepare those gameplans before the game as this allows you to quickly switch between those gameplans during the match with the d-pad, without taking pauses.

Typical adjustment for defensive gameplans:

  • Pick a formation which allows you to get a lot of players involved defensively with the instructions. Example formations: 4231, 433-3, any 5ATB.
  • You can also lower the Depth to take less risks in defense and lower Players In Box to have less players involved in your attacks.
  • For the Build Up Play tactic you can choose between Balanced, Slow Build Up or Long Balls. With slow build up your players will get closer for short passes, while long balls allows you to get out of your own half easier as your players will start run forwards on their own.
  • For Chance Creation you can use Balanced or Possession to keep holding the ball in the opponent's half.
  • Instructions to use are Stay Back and Come Back On Defense on available positions.

Typical adjustment for attacking gameplans:

  • Pick a formation which allows you to get a lot of players involved in the attack. Example formations: 424, any 3ATB formation.
  • You can set the Defensive Style to Constant Pressure or Press After Loss Of Possession as well as increase the Depth.
  • For the Build Up Play tactic you can choose between Balanced and Fast Build Up. Chance Creation should be Direct Passing or Forward Runs to develop more attacking power. Players In Box can also be increased.
  • Instructions to use are Stay Forward, Get Into The Box For Crosses, Get Forward For Attack and Aggressive Interceptions on available positions.
  • Try to find the right balance between attacking instructions and still have enough players available for a solid build up.
