Lesson from Kaan about two techniques: How to break pressure
Key takeaways for this lesson:
- "71 depth" is a bit misleading, because Zonal Defense what makes it hard to play against and this is already in effect with 45 depth.
- If playing against high depth makes you angry or is frustrating you, a change of mindset is required. Understand it as a challenge and chance to create easy chances, instead of considering as something overpowered. With the techniques shared in this lesson as well as the understanding what the downsides of high depth are, you will know how to outplay it.
- When the opponent is playing high depth, two things will happen. The opponent's player will push up more easily and also overload one side.
- The latter enables us to play easy switch of sides with the square/X button. When we receive the ball, we try to get forward and gain ground. Sometimes we will be able to get close to the opponent's box already. If not, we can play another switch of side to continue on the other wing.
- You can also try to continue on the side you already are. In the moment when the opponent loses the ball, the players will push up the field. While not everything is coordinated, this can open up passing opportunities and with composed left stick dribbling and 1-2 passes we can create a lot of space against a defense which is pushing up.
- From time to time, driven passes into the center can also work against the opponent's players that are just starting to push.
- In terms of tactics and formations we would recommend to play a formation with dedicated wingers (442, 4231, 4222) to have passing opportunities going forward. It also helps to have one fullback on balanced and not stay back, since they will give us a great attacking opportunity to switch sides.
