- In FC 24 there are 5 different zones that you have to consider when it comes to saving a penalty. Before that it was only 3. Thus saving penalties became much harder.
- Basic shooting technique: try to press the shooting button when the composure ring is very small to increase the accuracy of your penalty. You can put a lot of power into the penalty, when you hit it with a small composure ring, so above 3 bars is fine.
- Basic saving technique: when the opponent is close to shooting the ball in the run up, take one step to the side you want to dive to increase your chances of getting there. Also make sure to have a clean input with the direction to the top or bottom corners. Sloppy execution can lead to poor saving animations by the goalkeeper.
- In order to save penalties shoot in the middle, we advise to not touch the sticks at all. Otherwise there is a risk that you start a dive to the side.
- The Panenka "glitch": press and hold L1/LB before powering up the penalty and put only 30-40% power. Aim to the bottom left or right corner. That way you get a low shot chip which is very hard to save.

- You can use different types of throw-ins. Pointing out the left stick towards the desired player is important. Pressing x will use it shortly and using the square button will send a long one.
- If the defender presses high and doesn't make it comfortable for you, you will need to use player switching. Using the right analog stick will allow you to switch between players and control their movements. Right when you get yourself into free space you can use the x button, so that the AI player sends the throw-in to your controlled player.
- Using this mechanic right after throw-in quickly can create huge opportunities.
- One special method that I invented requires 2 players. You simply pull one of them back, quickly switch to the other, point out the initial player with left stick and tap the L1 button quickly, so that he starts running in behind the defensive line, which is static. Then you can lift behind the ball towards there to create a good opportunity.

There’s a couple factors that go into this. In the next lesson this weekend I’ll be talking about this. But in short a slower jockey movement of your defender (normal jockey) has more of a chance to keep the ball than if you’re sprinting across to get the ball. Also if your opponent attempts driven pass there’s more of a chance it bounces off your player. Additionally the player stats and playstyles also can help trapping the ball specifically the intercept playstyle .

Is there a way to make sure that interceptions stay at the player's feet?
I sometimes find my players making the interception, but the ball follows through its intended trajectory, leading to a certain goal-scoring chance for my opponent. 

Interceptions are one of the key ways to win the ball back when defending. It is important to take away good passing options from your opponent and in this lesson we go over how to recognize those and how to proceed in order to intercept the passes.

- First we have to ANTICIPATE the opponent's next pass and PRIORITISE the most dangerous pass
- When anticipating a pass going from the opponent's midfield to his attack we should be right stick switching between our midfielders and move the closest player to block off the passing lane
- Alternatively if the midfielder cannot get across in time we can step a CB in front of the opponent's ST baring in mind the risk that the opponent could play a through ball over the top and in behind
- When to go for the intercept - when we've identified the opponent's next pass and we're in a position to safely move across one of our players to cover the passing lane
- When NOT to go for the intercept - when the risk outweighs the reward; the space we're leaving in behind us is not worth attempting the intercept
