The fundamentals of making interceptions
Interceptions are one of the key ways to win the ball back when defending. It is important to take away good passing options from your opponent and in this lesson we go over how to recognize those and how to proceed in order to intercept the passes.

- First we have to ANTICIPATE the opponent's next pass and PRIORITISE the most dangerous pass
- When anticipating a pass going from the opponent's midfield to his attack we should be right stick switching between our midfielders and move the closest player to block off the passing lane
- Alternatively if the midfielder cannot get across in time we can step a CB in front of the opponent's ST baring in mind the risk that the opponent could play a through ball over the top and in behind
- When to go for the intercept - when we've identified the opponent's next pass and we're in a position to safely move across one of our players to cover the passing lane
- When NOT to go for the intercept - when the risk outweighs the reward; the space we're leaving in behind us is not worth attempting the intercept
