Key takeaways for this lesson:

  • Sprint: when we're far away from where we want to be positioned
  • Sprint jockey: when we want to move laterally side to side
  • Jockey: when we're in a good position or only need to move slightly to intercept an incoming pass
  • When anticipating a pass we should be in the passing lane and closer to the receiver if we're attempting an intercept
  • Don't push up too close to the ball carrier or you'll leave space in behind, but also don't just sit back on the opponent's STs as the opponent can just carry the ball up with no pressure
  • 2nd man press in wide areas to put pressure on the ball whilst manually tracking a run or covering a passing lane
  • Use partial team press as a last resort or when the opponent is attacking the byline for the AI to man-mark 2 potential passing options while you can manually apply pressure on the ball
