Key take aways for this lesson:

  • Since you're trailing in the game, it's quite likely that you have some problems with the opponent. That's why you should ask yourself and try to identify:
  • Why do you struggle in defense? Is there a certain pattern the opponent likes to attack with? Any special trick or way how he breaks through?
  • Why do you struggle in attack? Do you lose the ball in your own half? Do you struggle to create chances or is he always able to prevent you from shooting?
  • Don't get mentally affected! It's especially important that you keep a cool head when you're trailing in a game and something unfortunate happens. Nevertheless, it's not a reason to tilt or getting impatient. The past is the past and you still have to focus on what's coming - how can you make sure to get the best out of the remaining time!
  • Inch-by-inch mentality! When you're trailing by several goals, you can't turn around the game at once, but step by step. At the beginning it seems like a mountain which is too high to climb, but just focus on scoring the first goal, then the second, and so on.
  • Have an all out attack tactic! Towards the end of the game it might be necessary to switch to an all out attack. You should have such a tactic prepared! Also make sure to make substitutions.
